In the main event of UFC 274, Justin Gaethje will take on Charles Oliveira in a lightweight bout. This will be a rematch of their previous encounter which took place back in December of 2012. In that fight, Gaethje defeated Oliveira via unanimous decision.

Both men are coming off of impressive wins in their last outings. Gaethje defeated Tony Ferguson in the main event of UFC 249, while Oliveira picked up a submission win over Kevin Lee at UFC Brasilia.

The winner of this fight will likely be in line for a title shot against either Khabib Nurmagomedov or Conor McGregor. Whoever comes out on top will have a case to be made as the number one contender in the lightweight division.

Highlights

After a back-and-forth first round, Gaethje began to take control in the second. He hurt Oliveira with a body shot and then took him down. Gaethje worked some ground and pound before Oliveira was able to get back to his feet.

Oliveira tried for a takedown of his own, but Gaethje was able to stuff it. The two men were clinched against the cage and that’s when Oliveira was able to take Gaethje down. He quickly took Gaethje’s back and sunk in a rear-naked choke. Gaethje tried to fight it off, but he eventually tapped out.

With this win, Oliveira has now set the record for most submission wins in UFC history with 12. He also becomes the first man to ever finish Gaethje in MMA competition.
